October 1, 2013 County Administration Budget Hearing in Kihei

KHAT was present and gave written testimony on asking the County to begin budgeting for, if they haven’t already, for the water, sewer and drainage needed for the Kihei High School.  Administration officials were reminded that the State of Hawai’i had budgeted $130 million in the second and third years of the biennium beginning July 1, 2013.  That means the high school is scheduled to break ground July 1, 2014.  This gives the County a year to wrap up the water, sewer and drainage planning.

Once the amendments are error free and rolled into an ordinance verified by Will Spence’s County Planning Department, the ordinance will then be sent to the Council’s Land Use Commission’s for review.

Update:  The ordinance package was transmitted by Corporate Counsel on Tuesday, October 1.  Planning Department transmitted the ordinance package to the Council’s Land Use Committee (LUC).

KHAT is very disappointed the October 16 LUC Agenda is too full to accommodate the KHS CIZ and Community Plan Amendment ordinance.  The next LUC hearing date is October 30, 2013.  KHAT will follow up with Councilman Carroll’s office who has graciously and promptly kept us up-to-date.
